Ultrafast Laser Microprocessing

Ultrafast picosecond and femtosecond lasers continue to be deployed in large numbers for high precision marking and micromachining applications. These lasers produce pulses of high energy in a very short amount of time. These pulses greatly minimize the undesired effects of heat on the work piece. Ultrafast lasers are ideal tools for cutting and dicing brittle material like semiconductors, glass for consumer products and for machining delicate or heat sensitive materials for industrial, medical and other applications. Optimal laser power, pulse compression, and reliability can be achieved with the proper selection of semiconductor lasers, specialized optics and thermal management solutions.

II-VI’s portfolio of semiconductor lasers for ultrafast lasers includes pump diodes and modules, as well as single mode seed laser modules for master oscillator power amplifier (MOPA) laser designs. II-VI also offers a portfolio of optics and modules specially designed for specific pulsed laser functions. These products include gratings for pulse compression, group delay dispersion (GDD) optics, and pulse pickers. Customers can also leverage II-VI’s solutions for passive thermal management using reaction bonded silicon carbide (RB SiC) materials, thermal grade CVD diamond and active thermal management solutions with thermoelectric modules.
