Fixed-Gain EDFA

A wide variety of compact erbium-doped fiber amplifiers (EDFAs) for high-bitrate transponder applications are available in the form of uncontrolled gain blocks. These EDFAs incorporate industry-leading high-efficiency uncooled 980 nm pump laser technology combined with advanced micro-optic passive hybrid-function components. A widely tunable optical filter may be integrated into the module as an option to filter out amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) noise around the transmission wavelength so as to increase transmission reach. These enabling photonic components are designed and manufactured in house.

FlexSOM EDFA

FLEXible Structure Optical Module (FlexSOM) is a new generation of integration platform that allows an Erbium Doped Fiber Amplifier (EDFA) to fit in a pluggable transceiver form factor. FlexSOM solution responds to the need for amplification in high bit rate signal transmission, overcoming modulation or passives’ losses without an additional and external module or line card. This innovative platform is designed to enable ultra-compact and high performance amplification in next-generation 100, 200 and 400G coherent transceivers. Thanks to its flexible approach and the integration with II-VI miniaturized actives and passives devices, this solution can be designed to meet custom requirement in terms of footprint and amplification performances.
