II-VI Incorporated Introduces Handheld Field Test Instruments for Optical Networks

Feb 26, 2019

II‐VI Incorporated (Nasdaq:IIVI), a global leader in solutions for optical networks, today announced the introduction of its handheld test instruments for field support operations in optical networks.

Network service providers are driving the demand for easy to use diagnostic tools to equip their large field support organizations, enabling them to efficiently manage their optical network infrastructure, which is growing rapidly and becoming increasingly sophisticated.  II-VI’s new handheld test instruments are small, rugged and lightweight. They display relevant and actionable network diagnostics in real time on a smartphone, without the need for complex tools.

“Working with service providers, we completed a targeted product extension of our highly successful embedded monitoring product line to serve an unmet demand for simple diagnostic tools,” said Dr. Sanjai Parthasarathi, Vice President, Strategic Marketing, II-VI Photonics. “We look forward to develop stronger relationships with service providers in the field and deliver products that will further improve their productivity.”

II-VI introduced a pair of handheld test instruments to enable service technicians to monitor the health of fiber-optic networks. The first product is an optical time domain reflectometer (OTDR) that provides an assessment of fiber integrity. The second product is an optical channel monitor (OCM) that reports the signal strength of all active channels at the monitored point. Both products leverage field proven optical engines and advanced digital processing algorithms, which were originally developed for embedded monitoring and continue to be relied on for current and future generations of high-speed optical networks.
