PITTSBURGH, September 17, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) – II‐VI Incorporated (NASDAQ:IIVI), a leading provider of pump laser modules for optical amplifiers, today announced the introduction of its compact 400 and 500 mW uncooled 980 nm pump lasers.

The demand for embedded optical amplification with higher power is being driven by terabit per second transmission rates and wavelength extensions into the L-band in coherent transceivers for next-generation data-center interconnects.  II-VI’s new 3-pin micro-pumps and 8-pin mini-DIL pump lasers achieve 400 mW and 500 mW respectively, enabling the next generation coherent transceivers.

II-VI’s semiconductor laser chips are designed and manufactured in Zurich, Switzerland,  leveraging a high reliability legacy that spans more than 20 years. They enable our market-proven pumps to achieve superior performance, reliability and stability. The new pump lasers are currently available for customer evaluation with general availability expected in early calendar year 2019.
