High Power 1μm Laser Processing
High power lasers operating at one micron wavelength, including fiber lasers, diode pumped solid state (DPSS) lasers, and direct diode lasers, are increasingly deployed in highly automated manufacturing lines. They enable a wade range of materials processing applications such as welding, cutting, brazing, cladding, surface treating, bulk material heating, highly localized heating, and in additive manufacturing. Optimal laser designs can be achieved with the proper selection of semiconductor lasers, specialized optics and thermal management solutions.
II-VI provides one of the broadest portfolios of merchant components for all one micron laser systems designed for high-power materials processing. These include high power optics and coatings, including diamond turned freeform optics, acousto-optic modules and fiber-based components for fiber lasers, non-linear optical crystals and neodymium-doped laser crystals for DPSS lasers. Customers can also leverage II-VI’s solutions for passive thermal management using reaction bonded silicon carbide (RB SiC) materials, thermal grade CVD diamond and active thermal management solutions with thermoelectric modules.
II-VI’s semiconductor laser sources range from individual laser diodes chips to laser bars and stacks to direct diode laser engines. A broad range of laser diode wavelengths are available to accommodate various pumping schemes for fiber lasers and DPSS lasers, or to match work piece material absorption characteristics when used in direct diode lasers. II-VI’s high power laser processing heads for cutting, welding, brazing, surface treatment and cladding can be integrated into turnkey systems and deployed along with II-VI’s high power laser light cables and fiber-fiber couplers.
II-VI offers high brightness direct diode laser engines and turnkey systems. The direct diode laser engines are compact enough to be mounted on robotic arms in highly automated assembly lines. The Industry 4.0 management interface greatly simplifies system integration and control of key laser parameters, enabling our customers to leverage the full benefits of direct diode laser processing. II-VI’s portfolio of materials laser processing systems include full turnkey solutions that are designed for cutting, drilling and micromachining super hard materials such as polycrystalline diamond (PCD), polycrystalline diamond compacts (PDC), CVD and single crystal diamonds, polycrystalline cubic boron nitride (PCBN), and ceramics.
High Power CO2 Laser Processing
CO2 laser output power levels continue to increase enabling a broader range of applications including in sheet metal cutting and in extreme ultraviolet (EUV) lithography applications. Improvements in the quality of optics used within the laser cavity and beam delivery systems have enabled these advances.
From substrate to assembly, II-VI’s extensive expertise in CO2 laser optics provides optimal solutions to enable cutting edge optical performance in high power CO2 laser designs. II-VI’s CVD growth of ZnSe and diamond materials, along with a vertically integrated global manufacturing footprint, provides the platform that offers high quality, low absorption focusing lenses, mirrors and beam shaping components.
