High bit rate coherent transmission enables the optical network’s large data pipes for distances spanning a few tens to thousands of kilometers. Coherent transceivers employ advanced modulators that introduce signal loss. Optical amplifiers that compensate for these losses must be compact, low profile, consume low power, introduce low optical noise and be extremely cost competitive.
II-VI offers a broad portfolio of miniature components, hybrid passives and innovative assemblies to meet the tight space requirements in coherent transceivers. II-VI’s micro pump lasers come in a uniquely small, thin and flat package. Our tunable filters increase signal fidelity by filtering out amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) noise. Both the micro pumps and the tunable filters are the smallest on the market. They are complemented by passive devices that also feature very compact packaging. II-VI’s FlexSOM EDFA employs a flexible substrate to simultaneously hold components, the erbium doped fiber spool and fiber splices in such a manner that they can be custom fit to the narrow spaces within DWDM transceiver modules.
