3D Sensing in Virtual & Augmented Reality

Augmented reality in consumer electronics is enabled by 3D depth sensors that can scan our environment consistently to create 3-dimensional digital representations in real time. II-VI provides high performance, high reliability components to design depth sensing 3D cameras. II-VI offers high power vertical cavity surface emitting lasers (VCSELs) that can be used as illumination sources for time of flight (TOF), structured light (SL) and active stereoscopic systems. Our optical filters isolate the returning VCSEL signal over a wide field of view to improve the sensors’ accuracy and sensitivity, whether in intense sunlight or at night time. Active coatings such as indium tin oxide (ITO) can also be deposited on our micro-optics in complex patterns and used to monitor light leakage from a physically damaged sensor.
