On June 20, 2007, II-VI co-founder and chairman Carl Johnson presented "The Road From Student to Entrepreneur," a history of the founding of II-VI Incorporated, to 27 students from IUP Northpointe Regional Campus's 2+2+2 Electro-Optics Summer Camp.
The summer camp, now in its second year, is offered through a partnership between Indiana University of Pennsylvania at Northpointe, The Penn State Electro-Optics Center, and Lenape Technical School, with funding provided by the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development, and The Office of Naval Research. The program -- with goals of increasing student exposure to the entire field of electro-optics including the color spectra, electronics, fiber optics, forensics applications, holography, lasers, nanotechnology, night vision and wave optics -- is a week-long day-camp that includes tours of area electro-optics industry leaders, including II-VI.
While at II-VI, students attended Carl Johnson's presentation and toured II-VI's conventional polishing and precision diamond-turning production areas.
