ITT Industries (ITT Aerospace/Communications) recently awarded II-VI Incorporated (II-VI) with a $15,000 supplier award for the consistency, quality, and extremely tight tolerances of II-VI's diamond-turned and coated singlet lenses.

ITT is a global engineering and manufacturing company and a major supplier of sophisticated military defense systems, providing advanced technical and operational services to a broad range of government agencies. The company builds weather satellite surveillance cameras used by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to track severe weather patterns, and the singlets produced by II-VI are important optical components designed for use in ITT's next generation of weather-sensing instruments.

The recent award was based on delivery performance, quality performance, and good relations, but II-VI is no stranger to recognition from this customer. In October 2004, the company presented II-VI employees with an award to thank them for their work in support of the weather satellite sounding camera. The camera provides improved measurements of the temperature and moisture profiles in the atmosphere. Forecasters use temperature and moisture sounding data in advanced numerical weather prediction models to improve both global and regional predictions of weather patterns, storm tracks, and precipitation.
